After days of taking the bus, looking for accommodation online, walking all over the place, we have finally booked a place to live!
Yesterday, we were at Kelvin Grove, which is where QUT is located, and we found and signed a six-month lease beginning July 7th. Our apartment is called Central Kelvin Grove Village Centre Residences and it is literally across the street from the Creative Industries Precinct where I’ll be studying. It’s also a five-minute walk to the bus stop and a 10-minute ride to the city centre.
Our apartment is a split floored unit with one bedroom. That is, there’s a staircase that leads from the living/dining room to an upper area that fits a bed and some furniture. The upper deck has no walls or doors, just railings. For privacy, so people downstairs can’t look at our bedroom upstairs, we’ll be getting some Japanese shutters of some sort. There’s a patio outside where washing can be done.
Overall, the apartment is not very big, but it doesn’t look tiny because of the high 1.5 storey ceiling. The unit is a floor above the retail outlets below. There are cafes, restaurants and even a Woolworths. We were happy to find an ANZ bank ATM below. This week, we’ll be looking for some white goods and simple furniture as the unit is partially furnished.
I will post some photos on Ovi as soon as we move in and get settled a bit. Miss all back in Malaysia :)
